Ode to an Old Friend
Ode to an Old Friend

The other day I ran into an old friend of mine. I haven't thought of her in such a long time. Seeing her brought back many memories. I decided to write a poem and dedicate it to her. And it goes like this...
RIP - 1999 - 2004
I remember the day we first met
One summer evening about sunset
I gave you a home, made you my own
With you around I was never alone
You weren't my first, nor my last
But unlike the rest, you came with no past
I plugged you in, you came to life
I started searching for the wildlife
After a while, I noted some quirks
and before long, I did some reworks
The windows keys on your keyboard sucked
But not for long, for they got plucked
The built in video was rather slow
I wasn't the big-time gamer though
Other than that, life was good
You worked just like I thought you should
We surfed together into the nights
By the glimmer of the modem lights
We saw the sights, built some sites
Made some friends, fought some fights
We spent some money, made some too
Tried real hard to be indexed at Yahoo
Times... they weren't always so good
Several times I had to open your hood
The night the fan died was such a fright
But the window fan got us through the night
And that 40 Gig hard disk I planned to do
Til you said NO! Not more than 32
That mouse that brought my world to a halt
Turned out to be the cat's fault
Years flew by and I got jaded
Only because you got outdated
I felt it was time for a new debut
Out with the old and in with the new
So you were salvaged for what you were worth
a few spare parts, and dirt from this Earth
Now you are nothing but a lifeless shell
And you look just like you've been through hell
Don't despair; I no longer care
Life's a beach with my new affair
Farewell my friend, we sure had fun
I can't look back, I've gotta run
Rust in Peace
